Bethesda (known for Skyrim and Fallout). has teased a new trailer about their upcoming game: Starfield. In this trailer, we finally see a launch date: 11-11-2022. (Skyrim was launched on 11-11-2011). In the new teaser, we get to learn that players will be part of the Constellation a group in the Settled systems. We also see that it is possible to visit other planets and explore those. However, it is unsure how this will work for now.
You will be part of a faction called the Constellation, starting in our own solar system and 50 light-years further. (And maybe a little bit beyond that). 20 years prior to the start of the game (2330) there was a bitter war between two factions: The United Colonies and the Freestar Collective. Ever since then an uneasy peace has existed.
There are also three other factions that might play an important role in the Settled Systems. Exliptic Mercenaries, Crimson Fleet (space pirates), and House Var’ruun (kind like a space cult).
Sadly there might not be a Playstation 4/5 release, since Microsoft bought the game studio. The game will be released on the 11th of November 2022 on PC, Xbox X/S, and to Xbox Game Pass on the day of its release. So it will be a console exclusive. We hope that sometime the game will be released on the Playstation 4 and 5 but that remains to be seen.
Bethesda has shown the cities that will be featured in Starfield. There will be three locations (one for each faction). The metropolitan capital of the United Colonies: New Atlantis. The freedom city of the Freestar Collective, Akila. And the pleasure city of Neon. Perhaps there will be smaller settlements to explore. There will be alien races as well, however, Bethesda has not shown what they will look like.
25 years in the making
According to Bethesda, Starfield has been 25 years in the making, however, there are many things unsure yet. We finally get to see more of the game and so far things have been really looking good. I just hope it is expansive, interactive, and has a very good storyline. Skyrim to this day is still the best (if not one of the best) selling game. For a reason. I hope the game studio can manage the huge expectations.
The idea behind Starfield has been in the think tank since 2004, and Bethesda has said it has the recognizable Bethesda DNA to it. So expect deep character customization and open exploration. But also expect all new ideas to enter into the mix. This won’t just be Fallout or Skyrim in space.
Microsoft buying Bethesda is also very smart. This game (if done well), will attract a large crowd to buy their consoles or if necessary build/upgrade their PC.
